“At Mt. Baker Housing, we believe that real estate development is never just about buildings. It is about people, community, and opportunity.”

Hannah Bryant, Executive Director

We approach every project with a deep respect for the communities we serve. We start by listening.

We engage residents, neighbors, and local community partners throughout the design and development process to ensure our communities reflect the needs, values, and cultures of the neighborhoods they serve.

By investing in thoughtful and inclusive design, we create spaces where families thrive, small businesses grow, and community flourishes. We are building not just for today, but for generations to come.

Mulugeta's story

When Mulugeta immigrated from Ethiopia nine years ago, he was grateful to begin a new life in a country he felt would provide opportunities for his future.

For a time, Mulugeta lived in the U.S. on his own, but eventually he brought over his now wife to the U.S. as well. Although the couple were happy to be together, they struggled at times financially and found themselves in difficult situations due to their cost of living. After having two boys, the burden of housing became more evident than before.

They became aware of an affordable housing property and were able to obtain housing in an affordable housing property with the help of a local agency. However, after some time their property was going to be sold and demolished.

When they became aware of Tahoma Valley through family friends, it was hard for them to believe that such a building with clean, new furnishings and great amenities would also be affordable housing.

Now, having lived at Tahoma Valley for nearly five months, Mulugeta has found community amongst his neighbors whom he has helped to create resumes and look for jobs in his free time outside of work. He regularly attends community events hosted by the property, and he is grateful to be able to raise his two boys in a dignifying environment.

Up Next: Trenton

The design team for the Trenton Apartments is committed to creating a diverse unit mix at affordable rent rates that cater to large households while generating sufficient rental income to cover operating expenses and loan repayments. Through partnerships with community-based organizations, outreach events, and engagement with residents at our nearby properties, we recognize the pressing need for large apartments affordable to households earning 60% or less of the King County Area Median Income.

The Trenton Apartments will also create an innovative healthcare and housing model by connecting affordable housing residents with healthcare providers located next door. An on-site, high-quality healthcare facility will enhance access to healthcare services and wellness programming for all Mount Baker Housing residents. Our partner in this endeavor, The Tubman Center for Health and Freedom, is a Black community-owned and-led organization that serves marginalized communities. The flagship clinic at the Trenton site will be a multidisciplinary health care center designed to meet the needs of communities marginalized by mainstream medicine and offer culturally appropriate care of the people by the people. Tubman Health provides primary and preventative care, community resources, social services, political education, and advocacy.
