Mt. Baker Housing resident impact

Providing services our
residents need

Ramsy's story

DSC01080.jpg

Ramsy and his family found themselves amongst one of the many Cambodian families who made the harrowing migration to the U.S. in 1982 during the Cambodian Civil War.

Arriving to the U.S. at such a vulnerable age brought Ramsy many challenges, one of them being housing insecurity in his youth. When he and his family moved to Mt Baker Village, it represented security and a place to belong and call home in their new country.

Over the many years living at Mt Baker Village, Ramsy has experienced joy developing the community pea patch garden, as well as gaining new skills and knowledge about gardening. He has experienced grief, and in turn, a deep sense of community, when his mother passed away in 2024 and his neighbors came together to host a traditional Cambodian ceremony to honor her life.

With the help of resident services at MBV, Ramsy will begin a culinary training program to strengthen his skills after taking a hiatus from work to care for his mother. Mt Baker Village has been a generational home for Ramsy and his family. It has been a haven in times of uncertainty.

Where Housing Stability Meets Community Building

We know that accessing affordable housing is only one step toward overall stability. Many residents also face barriers such as limited English proficiency, lack of access to culturally responsive healthcare, food insecurity, and difficulty addressing other basic needs.

Three Pillars of Resident Services

Our Resident Services program is built on three core pillars: resident assistance, community events, and resident-led initiatives.

1. Residence
Assistance
2. Community
Events
3. Resident-Led
Initiatives

  1. Resident Assistance – Personalized support and resource referrals through office hours and on-on-one appointments with our Resident Services coordinators.

  2. Community Events – Programs and gatherings that foster connection, build community, and link residents to essential resources.

  3. Resident-Led Initiatives – Opportunities for residents to shape their community through activities that reflect their interests and talents.

At its heart, our program is about more than services. It is about stability, empowerment, and connection. By meeting residents where they are, we help them not only maintain their housing, but also plan for their future, and build a sense of belonging within their community.

Partnerships at Our Core

Lasting change requires collective effort. Partnerships are central to how we operate and amplify our impact. By cultivating strong relationships with mission-aligned organizations, local businesses, community advocates, and public agencies, we create a network of support that extends well beyond housing.

Join us and our partners in supporting residents and building vibrant communities in Southeast Seattle.
